A trip to the forgotten world

I was instructed by my company to do a free health check up at a physio center, for those who had suffer from stroke. It was a charity health check up from the company. In here, I met a few patient who had suffer from stroke. I believe every one is very well verse with the effects of stroke. But I felt like there is a need to remind every one that, as much as we know or understand the cause and consequences of stroke, how many of us out there really took the steps to prevent it?

I met this couple, where the husband suffers from stroke few years back. They didn't buy any health insurance for him, so for those who haven got any, please do get one. You never know what will happen to you, message me if you want any, I know some good friends who has really good advice on it. Any way, back to the story, the husband used to be a lorry driver, and he was required to travel a lot. So having a healthy diet and regular exercise is out of the picture for him. But there he is at the center, after the stroke, unable to walk properly without a walking stick. His wife had to be there with him all the time. I got to talk to her briefly and knew all this. She explained that, last time they took diet and healthy life style too light heartedly. After the stroke incident, she cannot afford to do so any more. By the way, the husband was only 44 years old, and they have 3 kids at home. Being unable to care for the family and take care of yourself too, how would you feel if you are in his shoe?

Food for thought: are you going to start taking care of your diet now, or will you wait for incidents like this to happen, then only you will take actions for it?

It was a very hot afternoon today, every one was hiding in the center to get a way from the heat. Many of us discuss on what kind of food is best taken and what to avoid. A car stops at the front of the center, and a young man stepped out of the car. He opened the passenger door and assisted a man of 60 years old out of the car. He suffer from a minor stroke that left his left leg near paralyzed. You might have thought that he might look miserable and sad over his situation, but he has one of the brightest smile I ever seen by far. He is known as "leng zhai" by the center's staff, his smiles even brighter when he hears some one calls him that =)

Finally, we end the day with good old kampung story from our captain (we call him captain because he got this rank back in the navy, if I didn't get it wrong). I tell you more on that some other time =) Till then, do make some healthy changes to your diet and lifestyle today. Don't wait on it.
